Things you need
- A wide-tooth comb
- A wig stand
Step 1: Comb the hair to remove tangles and knots
Before you start washing your human hair wig, you need to comb the it to remove any tangles and knots. Wigs, whether human hair wigs or synthetic wigs, tend to tangle. The best way to get rid of the tangles is to comb and brush through the wig gently, starting from the roots to the ends. If you come across a knot you can remove it using your fingers then continue combing until the wig is free from tangles and knots.
Step 2: Shampoo the wig
Once you have combed your human hair wig, the next thing you need to do is to wet the wig and apply shampoo. You can use the normal shampoo that you normally use on your natural hair. Take enough shampoo on your hands and massage through the wig until the shampoo fully penetrates into the wig. Let it rest for about 15 minutes on the wig.
Step 3: Rinse off the shampoo
Once the shampoo has rested on the wig for the aforementioned minutes, it is time to rinse it off. Use lukewarm water to rinse the wig and not hot water because hot water can leave your wig dry. If possible wash the wig under running water. Rinse it off thoroughly until there are no traces of shampoo left on the wig.
Step 4: Condition the wig
Once you have rinsed off the shampoo, the next thing you need to do is to condition the wig. To do this, take an adequate amount of conditioner into your hands and massage through the wig. Conditioning your human hair wig or bundles with closure is essential, and you shouldn’t overlook it. Let the conditioner rest in your hair for a few minutes as well. It is best to use a moisturizing conditioner.
Step 5: Rinse off the conditioner
Now it is time to rinse off the conditioner. Use cold water for this because it can seal in the moisture from the conditioner, adding shine and luster to your human hair wig. Once there are no more traces of conditioner in your wig, squeeze it gently to remove excess water. Then wrap it with a towel and wipe it gently to absorb excess water.
Step 6: Dry off your wig
Finally, it is time to completely dry your human hair wig. It is best to let your wig air dry. To do this, place your wig on a wig stand and let it air dry. But if you are in a hurry, you can use a blow dryer but in a low temperature setting. Once the wig is completely dry, you can apply oil to give it that shiny look.
